  • THE BEGINNING

    Instarmac Repair Services Ltd, from the term Instant Tarmac, was established in 1977, after founder Charles “Charlie” Hudson purchased an innovative pothole repair material from Tiny Draper of Emcol Int. after seeing the product featured in BBC’s Tomorrow’s World.

  • Instarmac achieved their first ISO 9001 accreditation for Quality Management Systems. ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard in the family that can be certified to. This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement.

  • UltraScape’s BS 7533 Mortar Paving System launched. UltraScape is a BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system and high specification, decorative, jointing solutions for domestic paving installations.

  • The business continued to go from strength to strength, and so, to help keep up with demand, Instarmac moved to a new manufacturing site in Kingsbury, Tamworth and export of some key UltraCrete materials to Europe begins.

  • UltraTile’s range of adhesives and grouts launched. UltraTile offer a comprehensive range of ready mixed pastes and cementitious powder wall and floor adhesives, grouts, silicones, ancillary products and levelling compounds.

  • Gained HAPAS approval for Instant Road Repair. UltraCrete Instant Road Repair 6mm grade is designed for permanent asphalt repairs in footways, footpaths and cycle tracks. Our 10mm grade is designed for permanent repairs in type 3 and 4 roads.

  • BS 7533 compliant independent approval received for UltraScape’s Mortar Paving System. To guarantee compliance to BS 7533, all bedding, priming and jointing materials have to undergo thorough testing by an independent UKAS accredited laboratory. Each product is tested to ensure its compressive, adhesive and flexural strengths, modulus of elasticity, minimum density and maximum shrinkage all meet or exceed the parameters set out in the standard.

  • UltraFloor’s range of expert subfloor preparation materials launched. UltraFloor offers a range of premium solutions, including smoothing underlayments, moisture protection, repair compounds and primer for the modern flooring contractor. All of our specialist materials are suitable for the preparation of subfloors in commercial, industrial and domestic applications.

  • Achieved ISO 14001 accreditation for Environmental Management Systems and ISO 18001 accreditation for Occupational Health and Safety. ISO 14001 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system. It maps out a framework that a company or organisation can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. ISO 18001 provided a framework for the effective management of OH&S including all aspects of risk management and legal compliance, and it addressed occupational health and safety rather than any specific product safety matters.

  • After just 10 years, Instarmac had outgrown the their Kingsbury manufacturing facility and so, in 2008, we moved to a custom-built, multi-million pound site in Dordon, Tamworth. The site houses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, distribution, finance, export, marketing and research and development. It is also home to a team of internal sales co-ordinators who support each of our Area Sales Managers.

  • Rainwater collection system installed – just one of many environmental initiatives implemented at Instarmac since 2008. We have always prided ourselves on our environmental, sustainable and ethical practices and are constantly striving to do more to create a more sustainable environment for future generations. Other environmental initiatives include pallet recycling, installation of solar panels and intelligent lighting system.

  • Pallet recycling scheme launched. We are extremely proud of our pallet recycling scheme. Each of our Drivers will collect unwanted pallets from our customers to reuse and recycled. Throughout, our Drivers were able to return and recycle approximately 15,000 pallets – that saves around 1,900 trees a year.

  • Instarmac acquires Emcol and export to Asia and New Zealand begins. This acquisition enabled us to offer licensing opportunities all around the world, for businesses to start their own manufacturing facility producing our world renowned Instant Road Repair and Permanent Pothole Repair. We are now represented on every continent and our global presence continues to grow.

  • Instarmac acquires Wondertex. Wondertex has been providing internal finishing solutions for over 50 years. Our portfolio of professional indoor decorating products includes a filler and smoother designed for filling and finishing plasterboard joints as well as repairing any accidental damage, a high grab adhesive for fixing all coving systems, a product to create or smooth over unwanted textured surfaces, as well as expert drylining solutions.

  • Instarmac’s fleet are awarded with FORS Bronze Award. FORS  is a voluntary national accreditation scheme designed to help fleet operators improve and monitor operational performance and safety. The scheme encompasses all aspects of safety, fuel efficiency, vehicle emissions and improved operations.

  • Instarmac achieves Zero Waste to Landfill. This means that 100% of manufacturing waste is recycled and not sent to landfill.

    This is just one initiative Instarmac have successfully implemented with the aim of creating a truly sustainable future.

  • Instarmac acquires Granfix.  The acquisition of the Granfix brand supported our continued growth and greatly contributed towards expanding our product offering to the tiling market.  By working alongside our already successful Ultra Tile brand, Granfix elevated Instarmac to a market leading supplier to the tile trade.

  • Instarmac acquires Aztec Aerosols. Dating back to 1995 Aztec has had a long history of Aerosol Contract Filling, initially based in Croydon the factory moved to Crewe in 1999.

  • Instarmac’s fleet are awarded with FORS Silver Award. Andy Ryan Logistics Manager commented ‘we are extremely proud of our FORS Silver award. At Instarmac we are strive to provide the most up-to-date logistics technology and efficiency procedures’.

  • Instarmac named as a Times Top 100 Best Small Companies for the 9th year. The top 100 places are awarded following research conducted by Best Companies – research which involves completing an anonymous survey on topics such as Leadership, Wellbeing, Giving Something Back, Personal Growth, My Manager, My Company, My Team and Deal.

  • Instarmac named as a Great Place to Work®. Great Place to Work®, in partnership with the Guardian and Sunday Telegraph, is recognised worldwide and celebrates trust and engagement within an organisation. Great Place to Work® believe a successful company is built through day-to-day relationships with employees who trust the people they work with, have pride in what they do and enjoy the company of people they work alongside – values Instarmac have always prided themselves on.

  • Instarmac achieved ISO 27001 accreditation for the first time. ISO 27001 is a specification for an information security management system (ISMS). An ISMS is a framework of policies and procedures that includes all legal, physical and technical controls involved in an organisation’s information risk management processes.

  • Named as a Great Place to Work® 2019 UK Best Workplaces for Women. In order to qualify for this prestigious award, Instarmac Group plc had to meet a number of strict criteria, including having already been ranked as a Great Place to Work®, employing a minimum of 25% women in their work force, having a minimum of 25% of women employed in higher positions e.g. Manager, Senior manager etc., and to have demonstrated a confidence level of 80% from data gathered by direct feedback from the company’s female workforce.

  • Instarmac acquires a 10% share of Roadmender Asphalt. Roadmender Asphalt manufactures and markets a diverse range of multi award winning Materials, Roadmender Machines, Hotbox Reclaimers and Infrared Recyclers designed for asphalt patching, pothole repairs, hot in-place recycling, Ironwork and utility reinstatement.

  • Instarmac wins the highly coveted RoSPA Gold Medal Award for the ninth consecutive year. Organisations receiving a RoSPA Gold Medal Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice, ensuring their colleagues, customers, clients and contractors all get home safely to their families at the end of every working day.

  • Instarmac launches the second issue of their Environmental and Social Responsibility Report. As a manufacturer, we understand how important it is to be as sustainable and environmentally responsible as possible and to constantly challenge ourselves to make further improvements.

  • Instarmac Holdings move to their state-of-the-art offices in Tamworth. Instarmac Holdings is a group of entrepreneurially-minded manufacturing and distribution businesses based in the UK. Our vision is to continue this progress through organic growth, investments and acquisitions. Instarmac Group Holdings aims to become a £100 million turnover by 2024.
