UltraFloor makes a splash in UK’s top Aquarium

UltraFloor’s Level IT Super30 rapid setting and drying smoothing underlayment has been used to refurbish the home of one of Europe’s largest collection of sharks!

Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire Oaks has undergone refurbishment to its reception and walk through areas by Manchester based flooring contractor Branagan Flooring Services.

The work was carried out in a tight time frame during the aquarium’s closing hours, to avoid disruption to trade. It was completed in three phases over a six day period and included 800m² of subfloor preparation and Polyflor XL PU vinyl installation using UltraFloor’s Level IT Super30.

Existing floor covering and adhesive residue was removed before an UltraFloor primer was applied to the concrete substrate. Priming helps stop the moisture from the wet underlayment passing through to the porous subfloor which can cause pinholes, prolonging the life of the installation. It was used to prepare the area prior to levelling with Level IT Super30.

Level IT Super30 is UltraFloor’s market leading ‘level and lay in a day’ formulation which sets to walk on in 30 minutes whilst allowing impervious floor coverings to be laid after just 3 hours – perfect for this project’s time constraints! Once smoothed and cured it was ready to receive the bonded Polyflor XL PU vinyl.

Branagan Flooring commented that UltraFloor’s Level IT Super30 was ‘excellent, just what we needed for the job! Fast and efficient!’

Blue Planet Aquarium is ranked as one of the UK’s top aquariums and the refurbishment has further enriched the visitor experience.

UltraTile supports Rugby World Cup legacy

UltraTile products have recently been used in the refurbishment of Woodrush Rugby Football Club, Birmingham following the receipt of a RFU Social Spaces Grant.

UltraTile, the tile adhesives, grouts and ancillaries brand from the UK manufacturer Instarmac Group, were delighted to support club sponsors and long-standing customer, Anglo Italian.  The team’s busy clubhouse was completely refurbished during a 5 month window, prior to the start of the Rugby World Cup.  Anglo Italian tiled all floors and washroom walls using Italian mixed porcelain tiles and UltraTile FibreGrip FX in grey.  UltraTile FlexJoint was then used to grout all surfaces and provide a professional and stylish finish to this popular social venue.

UltraTile FibreGrip FX is a premium grade, polymer modified adhesive with added fibres for superior bond, fibre enhanced body and exceptional grab.  It is ideal for use with natural stone, porcelain, quartz and ceramic tiles, and is formulated to adhere to most common substrates including screwed and fixed over-boarded wooden floors.  FibreGrip FX is suitable for wall and floor installations in both internal and external locations.  It is classified under CE marking regulations as a C2 FT and is compatible with underfloor heating systems.

Joint finishing was completed using UltraTile FlexJoint grout in Grey.  This grout boasts a super fine texture, is polymer modified for ultimate flexibility, repels water and will not mould.  It can be used with underfloor heating and for joint widths from 1-20mm.  Eight other colours are available to choose from: White, Cream, Jasmine, Limestone, Sandstone, Chocolate, Titanium and Anthracite.  Complimentary colours in UltraTile ProSeal IT silicone are also available.

The project’s value was £10,000, spanned 120m² and was completed in time for the start of the Rugby World Cup.  The venue has therefore played host to a number of avid fans over recent weeks – all were very impressed with its fantastic, high quality new look!

UltraTile also supported the Rugby World Cup by running a competition to win tickets to the Australia v Wales game on the 10th October.  The lucky winner was Kelly Lucas from Tiletec, Middlesex.  Kelly went to the match with her brother and they both had a great day.

UltraScape restores London Borough train station entrance

Situated in South West London, the Borough of Wandsworth is home to 2 major train stations, Wandsworth Common and Wandsworth Town.  The latter has received major urban regeneration using the Ultrascape mortar paving system.

The improvements to the station’s entrance and surrounding area were made using Pro-Bed HS bedding mortar, Pro-Prime slurry primer and Flowpoint flowable grout.  Making up UltraScape’s renowned mortar paving system, the 3 products are proven to be BS 7533 compliant under UKAS testing methods. This British Standard promotes professional results that can give a minimum construction life of 40 years.  What’s more, when using the system the paving can be opened to traffic 4 hours after grouting.

UltraScape Pro-Bed HS is a fine bedding mortar that can be laid from 10mm to 75mm.  The product creates the ideal foundation for laying paving elements where a rigid or bound base is required.

UltraScape Pro-Prime slurry primer is specifically formulated to provide an exceptional bond of greater than 2N/mm² between all types of stone.  It only requires the simple addition of water before it can be applied to the stone elements.

UltraScape Flowpoint, a rapid setting flowable grout, is fast and efficient to apply, offering the ability to grout significant areas of paving quickly and cleanly.  Perfect for wide or narrow joints, Flowpoint can accommodate joint widths of 3-50mm and depths of up to 200mm in a single pass.

This project not only included the construction of footpaths, but also a road crossing outside of the station and a speed table in Old York Road, which runs alongside the station’s entrance and demonstrates the system’s compatibility with vehicle as well as foot traffic.

Flowpoint to Set Sail in Rotterdam

Flowpoint has been used on a large scale paving project in Rotterdam – another prestigious project to add to its growing portfolio.

Poltec, distributor of UltraScape’s independently tested and approved mortar paving system, supplied over 1,000 bags of Flowpoint, flowable paving grout, to point the newly laid paving on a heavily trafficked area next to the famous Erasmusbrug Bridge in Rotterdam.

Ideal for grouting most paving types and mixed easily with water, Flowpoint can fill widths of 5-50mm and joint depths of up to 200mm in one pour, leaving a perfect, stain-free finish.

What’s more, Flowpoint can even be applied in the wet weather, which means work doesn’t have to stop during bad weather or during colder months. It can even be opened to foot traffic in 1 hour and vehicular traffic in 4 hours, minimising disruption.

With a track record spanning over 25 years, you can be assured that when strength, durability and style matter, Flowpoint is the world’s number one choice for all paving projects.

UltraScape helps to preserve Gateway to World Heritage site

Bow Lane in Durham is the gateway to the city’s World Heritage Site. Several years ago, the well-used thoroughfare underwent a facelift to rejuvenate it. This included re-laying existing cobbles and stone paving as well as installing new stones.

The work was carried out using UltraScape’s BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system comprising Pro-Prime slurry primer , Pro-Bed HS fine bedding concrete and Flowpoint rapid setting grout. This British Standard proves that these materials have been independently and rigorously tested by a UKAS accredited laboratory to assess their performance capabilities. Schemes incorporating  BS 7533 compliant materials will benefit from a reduction in failures and considerable whole life cost savings.

UltraScape’s Flowpoint has a high fluid consistency and was ideal for grouting the varying joint widths and depths created by the cobbles. Simple to use, it was poured over the area and washed clean, filling all joints evenly, without staining. This slurry method provides a fast, cost effective and robust way of grouting large areas, quickly. Furthermore, Flowpoint can be open to foot traffic in just one hour, minimising time on site and disruption to pedestrians. It is available in two colours; charcoal and natural, both of which were used on this project.  A third, bespoke colour was also blended to ensure all areas were in keeping with the original character.

The site has since withstood vehicular traffic, heavy foot traffic, and the elements, with no signs of deterioration – a testament to using a BS 7533 compliant system. A tried and tested method that removes the uncertainty of site batched mortars and offers a minimum construction life of 40 years.

“We are delighted with the overall appearance of the scheme and also with its durability.  The products were easy to use and the technical assistance we received from the team at Ultrascape in the design stages, and also during the construction process, all contributed to the success of the project.  The products have proved themselves to be resilient and durable and Bow Lane looks just as good 4 years on.” Sara Forbes, Assistant Engineer, Highway Design.

Swindon Station is back on track with UltraScape’s Mortar Paving System

UltraScape’s BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has been used to deliver a modern and stylish forecourt outside Swindon railway station.

The redevelopment has transformed what was previously a heavy traffic dominated area, into a prestigious pedestrian focused arrival space which features seating, planting, lighting and a  millennium clock. Taxi ranks, drop offs and bus stops are now in well defined locations.

Work was carried out by specialist civil engineering contractor, Britannia Construction and included the installation of 500 tonnes of high quality natural granite and Pennant Sandstone using UltraScape’s Pro-Bed HS fine bedding concrete, Flowpoint rapid setting grout and Pro-Prime slurry primer.

Construction took place in ‘live’ conditions with train commuters still using the area to access the station. Flowpoint was the ideal choice as its rapid setting properties enable areas to be open to foot traffic in just 1 hour, keeping downtime and disruption to a minimum. Simple to use, requiring only the addition of water on site, it is poured over the area and washed clean, filling all joints evenly, without staining.  This slurry method provides an easy method of grouting large areas, quickly.

UltraScape Pro-Bed HS provided a perfect bound base for the granite and stone setts. It can be laid up to 75mm in one pass, with greater depths achievable using successive layers. To promote bond, the supporting layer and setts were primed using UltraScape’s Pro-Prime which ensures full and even contact will be made with the aggregate particles as well as promoting adhesion to greater than 2N/mm² as per the requirements of BS 7533.

Flowpoint and Pro-Bed HS are also available in ‘ECO’ which is ideal for use on schemes looking to achieve distinctive environmental performance in their work and recognition from the CEEQUAL award scheme.

Projects incorporating BS 7533 compliant materials benefit from a reduction in failures and considerable whole life cost savings.  The materials have been independently and rigorously tested by a UKAS accredited laboratory to assess their performance capabilities. This method removes the uncertainty of site batched mortars and offers a minimum construction life of 40 years.

More than 3 million people pass through Swindon’s station every year and UltraScape’s BS 7533 compliant system was the ideal choice to ensure longevity and assure against costly repercussions.
