The Market’s Favourite Pothole Repair Material, Now Even Easier to Apply!

At Instarmac, home of the UltraCrete brand of proven and tested highway maintenance solutions, innovation, research and development is stimulated by the relationship they have with their customers.

The company pride themselves on listening to customers’ needs and providing real solutions.  As part of this programme of continual improvement and investment they have recently made enhancements to their HAPAS approved Permanent Pothole Repair and 6mm Instant Road Repair cold lay asphalt material to facilitate even easier application.

The easy work formulas eliminate the need for kneading before installation.  Permanent Pothole Repair and 6mm Instant Road Repair can be applied direct from the tub filling patches with ease and enabling effortless compaction once in-situ.  The straightforward application provides a more efficient repair method, saving the contractor both time on site and the overall cost of installation.

The new enhanced Permanent Pothole Repair is available in 25kg tubs and is recommended for the repair of potholes in roads, driveways and car parks. Instant Road repair 6mm grade is supplied in 25kg plastic bags and tubs and is ideal for permanent repairs in footpaths and cycle tracks.

UltraCrete’s cold lay asphalts are formulated to give a performance equivalent to hot-lay materials, yet remain workable and effective for 6 months without degrading in storage or transit. Cleaner, more efficient and user friendly, they can be used in all weathers at any time, day or night and are particularly suitable for small works such as patch repairs, street ironwork, access covers and repairs to footways. Furthermore, the resealable tubs eliminate any wastage, helping your money go further.

Protect Your Asset with UltraCrete’s Overbanding

Instaband ECO is UltraCrete’s HAPAS approved thermoplastic overbanding tape, designed for application to asphalt roads to prevent water ingress and progressive fretting, which leads to road structural failure.

It can be used in addition to UltraCrete’s HAPAS Approved Reinstatement System, or applied on its own for the sealing of reinstatement joints, fretting edges and general cracks up to 5mm wide.

Quick and easy to heat apply, it can be trafficked instantly, minimising the need for traffic management. It offers a high skid resistance value of 60, improving road safety, especially important for motorcyclists, cyclists and horses. These  values also conform to the requirements of the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH), S11.7 (SRV minimum 55).

Instaband ECO provides a waterproof seal on  asphalt and is an excellent method of preventative maintenance. The product’s simple application method provides contractors with an effective way of protecting new and in-situ reinstatements as well as repairing joints and cracks in older wearing courses.

Installation without HAPAS approved materials can lead to early failure and contravene SROH requirements.

Choose UltraCrete’s HAPAS approved products for guaranteed performance and durability.

UltraScape exhibiting at Ecobuild

Urban regeneration specialist, UltraScape, part of the Instarmac Group, will be exhibiting at Ecobuild from 8th-10th March at ExCel London.

Ecobuild is the leading exhibition and conference for the UK construction and energy market, attracting over 40,000 professionals from across the supply chain. This year’s event will focus on market priorities such as housing, energy efficiency, sustainable design, technology and innovation.

UltraScape will be showcasing its BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system on stand E4194 which includes its environmentally friendly bedding mortar and flowable grouts.

Flowpoint ECO, is UltraScape’s innovative flowable rapid setting grout, containing 20% recycled glass. It is ideal for schemes looking to achieve an ‘excellent’ CEEQUAL award or where a BREEAM assessment is to be conducted. It can be opened to foot traffic in just 1 hour and vehicular in 4. Its high fluid consistency makes it ideal for grouting varying joint widths and depths. Simple to use, requiring only the addition of water on site, it is poured over the area and washed clean, filling all joints evenly, without staining.  This slurry method provides an easy method of grouting large areas, quickly.

UltraScape’s Pro-Bed HS ECO bedding mortar, also containing 20% recycled glass, provides the perfect bound base for laying paving. Use it in conjunction with Flowpoint ECO, to significantly reduce your consumption of virgin aggregates. It can be laid up to 75mm in one pass, with greater depths achievable using successive layers. The fast strength gain of Pro-Bed HS ECO allows pedestrian areas to be trafficked in as little as 12 hours.  It is supplied in 25kg paper bags and 30 tonnes silos for larger sites, which also has the added benefit of reducing product packaging waste to zero.

Visit UltraScape to find out how using BS 7533 compliant materials helps to reduce the whole life cost of your asset or come along to the CPD session on day 2 of the exhibition, where UltraScape’s National Sales Manager Alex Wright will be delivering a seminar on the subject.

Stockport community benefits from new UltraFloor installation

UltraFloor’s Level IT Super30 rapid setting and drying smoothing underlayment has been used on a church extension in Romiley, Stockport.

The contractor was G J Flooring Specialists Ltd. who carried out the work at St. Christopher’s Church on Barrack Hill.  A three day window was available for the work to be completed, two days of which were required for the fitting of the engineered oak flooring, leaving only the one for all the subfloor preparation.

Level IT Super30 is UltraFloor’s high specification, two-part smoothing underlayment that sets to walk on in as little as 30 minutes, whilst enabling floor coverings to be laid after only 3 hours.  This makes it ideal for use on projects where it is necessary to carry out the installation in a short time frame, including quick turnaround building extensions and refurbishment contracts.

The concrete substrate area totalled 130m² and the contractor’s team applied Level IT Super30 at a 3mm depth, providing a smooth, sound finish for the chosen floor to be laid onto.  Proprietor, Greg Jones commented that Level IT Super30 is “…fit for purpose…” and contributed to an “…excellent finish and happy client.”

Level IT Super30 can be applied between thickness of 2-15mm and its protein free formulation means it is ideal for use in biologically sensitive areas.  It can be used on a variety of subfloors, overlaid with most floor coverings, and is also suitable for use where warm water underfloor heating is incorporated.

We are proud to support National Pothole Day

There are currently 31,000 potholes awaiting repair across nearly 12,000 miles of Britain’s roads and it is estimated they cause as many as one in 10 mechanical failures costing motorists an estimated £730 million every year.

At Instarmac we are proud to support National Pothole Day, organised and run by the website Street Repairs.

The campaign day first ran last year and has garnered support from politicians and industry experts such as the RAC.

Founder Colin Mahoney said:” “The reaction to the first National Pothole Day was overwhelming. Reports of potholes increased dramatically with over 88 per cent of reports now relating directly to potholes and increasing the awareness nationally of the seriousness of the problems and potential dangers relating to the disrepair of our roads”.

Potholes are caused by water expanding as it freezes before melting.  With temperatures expected to plummet bringing freezing conditions across the Britain the problem is only going to get worse.

It is more important than ever to ensure that the materials used to repair our damaged roads are in fact proven and durable and the only real way of eliminating repeat visits and repair failures is to use materials and systems that are HAPAS approved.

Ultracrete has been investing in such solutions for over 35 years. Our cold lay asphalt products are HAPAS approved and ensure a quality, durable repair, eliminating return visits, traffic management and lane rental charges.

Authorities currently paid out £3.2 million in compensation claims the last 12 months due to poor roads, an annual increase of more than 50 per cent.

The Autumn statement saw Chancellor George Osborne announce a £250million pothole fund as part of a package of measures to improve the country’s transport network.

Colin Mahoney of Street Repairs said “I can honestly say that public sentiment is still very high in relation to this major ongoing issue and things are set to get worse.

“Once again we hope the general public will showcase what their roads and communities are really like. We would like as many people as possible to join our pothole campaign on social media and by using our free system to highlight local issues quickly and easily”.

Instarmac’s ongoing community support reaches new heights

British manufacturer, Instarmac Group plc has once again shown support to charities and good causes alongside their nominated charity, the Gentleman’s Night Out by donating over £7000 in 2015 alone.

Instarmac, a company whose company motto is ‘Work Hard, Have Fun, Make a Difference’ supported several local and national causes in 2015, including the well known Red Nose Day, BBC programme DIY SOS and popular Macmillan’s Coffee Morning.  Local beneficiaries were Queen Alexandra College in association with Blind Dave, the Red Boots Childrens Charity and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is over 150 years old and has over 270,600 patient visits per year.  The opening of their new cancer ward is imminent and last year Instarmac made a generous contribution towards the cost of new internal furnishings.  A very large cuddly toy dog was also presented to the ward, which will be raffled by the nurses raising further funds to support the new ward.

In the Autumn a group of Instarmac production employees organised a charity football match.  The event was held in aid of the company’s nominated charity the Gentleman’s Night Out.  Based in Birmingham this organisation distributes and funds within the West Midland’s region, Instarmac has supported them for 10 years by regular initiatives such as Dress Down Day contributions.  A very competitive football game saw the Warehouse Lions defeat the Production Pythons and over £900 raised from the match and raffle ticket sales.
