Lean Efficiency - A Means for Success at InstarmacCommended for Lean Efficiency
28-01-2010At the Midlands Excellence awards last week, Instarmac again received a 'Highly Commended' recognition for our Lean Efficiency initiatives.
Lean efficiency is extremely important to Instarmac – ensuring that the business 1) remains as efficient as possible, 2) reduces (or eliminates where possible) waste, 3) develops a culture of constant improvement empowering all staff to change things, promote ideas and publicise improvements, and 4) sets standards and goals, measuring itself and making a difference to the way they work.
We have implemented several improvement programmes and ideas in order to become ‘lean’. The main innovation being the use of KAIZEN. Kaizen is a Japanese improvement process that stands for ‘change for good’. It is used as a vehicle for improvement processes, and ensures that everything relevant can be collated together. All employees have been trained in the principles of KAIZEN, with KAIZEN facilitators developed to instruct future employees and run regular improvement groups for areas that need it.
Facilitators are trained to teach and develop future in-house staff so that they have the skills and knowledge to pass onto others. All departments are involved in these improvement workshops, with results always proving phenomenal, and communicated throughout the business.
Our lean efficiency measures have increased productivity and sustainability throughout the company, with improvements and developments underway all the time.Instarmac were voted in the Times Top 100 Small Companies to Work For in 2009, adding official recognition for their company culture and staff well-being. Alongside this, the company was also voted as 3rd Greenest Company for their environmental policies and procedures, showing a sustainable future in practice, not just on paper.
