Flowpoint Shines at City Walk

Flowpoint, part of the UltraScape Mortar Paving System available from Instarmac, has been specified, and used, to grout 40,000m² of paving at City Walk in Dubai.

City Walk Phase II offers visitors and residents an experience like no other. Located off Sheikh Zayed Road – a premium location in the heart of Dubai – City Walk brings together the perfect mix of residences, high end retailers and restaurants, all located in a beautiful public space.

Surrounded by tree lined pathways and a crystal clear lake, City Walk is the ideal location for visitors and residents to relax and unwind whilst enjoying the stunning views of the Burj Khalifa.

City Walk defines luxury and sophistication and so it was crucial that the materials used to create this development were aesthetically pleasing.

Flowpoint, supplied by Instarmac’s partner in Dubai, Tanseeq LLC, was specified to grout 40,000m² of paving throughout Phase II of City Walk. The project began in July 2015 (a time when temperatures can reach up to 50ºC), and was completed in February 2016. Flowpoint has been developed over a number of years to provide a durable finish which will not crack or stain – even in these very high temperatures.

Flowpoint is a flowable grout which allows for large areas of paving to be grouted quickly. It can be used to grout joints from 3/5mm to 50mm and as deep as 200mm in one application – ideal for projects where a number of different sized stones are used, such as this one. What’s more, Flowpoint can receive foot traffic in 1 hour and vehicular traffic in just 4 hours.

Flowpoint is available in 3 varieties – Original, ECO and Smooth and 2 colours – Charcoal and Natural Grey. The Design Consultants for City Walk wanted to create a stylish shadow effect for the development and so Flowpoint was supplied in a bespoke colour – Complete Black – to meet this requirement.

Flowpoint is available in UAE through Tanseeq LLC. To contact Tanseeq please call +971 (04) 361 7199 or visit www.tanseeqllc.com.

Half a job?

Overbanding is certainly a contentious subject and its use on our road network in the past has been controversial with reports of accidents due to skidding or unsightly images of bitumen creeping out from the sides of a patch in hot weather.

Sealing the joints of a repair to prevent water ingress and progressive fretting makes sense so why is overbanding not used on every permanent repair? It is the bad press? Are contractors only doing half a job? Are the products on the market not fit for purpose?

Well things have certainly moved on with manufacturers developing materials which provide all of the benefit with none of the risk. New overbanding solutions are quick and easy to heat apply and can be trafficked instantly, minimising the need for traffic management.

Overbanding materials provide an excellent method of preventative maintenance. Designed for application to asphalt roads they prevent water ingress and progressive fretting, which is a prime reason for failure of the reinstatement.

Remember – only HAPAS approved overbanding can be used on our road network!

To ensure road safety is maintained, it is compulsory to choose a solution that is HAPAS approved, as per the requirements of the SROH S11.7, ‘All materials used for overbanding shall have a current HAPAS approval certificate’ and that offers ‘a minimum skid resistance value of 55.’ This is especially important for motorcyclists, cyclists and horses. Failure to comply can lead to early failure and contravene SROH requirements.

Materials such as UltraCrete’s Instaband ECO have been tested over time to ensure compliance to those SROH requirements. They are proven to provide a waterproof seal on asphalt and are an excellent method of preventative maintenance. The product’s simple application method provides contractors with an effective way of protecting new and in-situ reinstatements as well as repairing joints and cracks in older wearing courses.

Instarmac achieves prestigious new ISO Accreditation

ISO have recently made changes to the 9001 and 14001 accreditations and Instarmac Group plc are proud to announce that during their recent audit they received a positive recommendation for continued registration of OHSAS 18001 and achieved transition to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Darren Gough, Quality and Operations Manager at Instarmac commented: “This is a fantastic achievement by the team involved as the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 standards will become obsolete in September next year.”

ISO have re-written the entire 9001 and 14001 standard to create one framework. The new framework focuses on 10 points, including Context of the Organisation, Leadership, Planning, Support, Operation, Performance Evaluation and Improvement and these points will be applied to all standards to create a uniformed framework for all new ISO certificates.

On these changes, Darren Gough explained how Instarmac achieved the new accreditation: “During 2016 we created a gap analysis to understand ‘where we were’ and ‘where we needed to get to’ in preparation for our transition audit in 2017. The transition to the new 2015 versions encouraged us to focus more on risk analysis and any challenges we foresee in the management of our business processes. Using tried and tested tools, such as FMEA, we were able to determine our biggest risks, highlighting actions required and implementation driven by leadership and management commitment.

The ISO standards allow Instarmac to reflect a good level of professionalism and demonstrates best practice. Our Quality Management System is a tool we continually use to improve our operations whilst determining how we can meet the requirements of our customers.”

These accreditations are a great accomplishment for Instarmac as they show customers their intent to continually improve all aspects of their business and demonstrates how they are committed to providing first class customer service and world class products that perform each and every time.

DVSA Ranks Instarmac as Low-Risk Operator

Instarmac Group plc are delighted to announce that their fleet of 37 vehicles and 36 drivers have been identified as a ‘Low-Risk Operator’ by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

The DVSA use the Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS) to determine the safety of a vehicle based on 2 factors – Roadworthiness and Traffic. The DVSA use this score, based on data collected over a 3 year rolling period, to give a company their risk type – Low, Medium or High.

Data is taken from annual tests, roadside inspections and inspections at the operators’ premises. These inspections include vehicle tests, driver’s hours and any tachograph offences where points are given for any defect or infringement of the rules. The more serious the defect the more points are given.

To be classified as low risk, an operator needs to receive a combined OCRS score of less than 10 and Instarmac Group plc were thrilled to receive a score of just 3.

This achievement is the latest in a long line for Instarmac’s award-winning fleet, the most recent being the FORS Silver Award which monitors operational performance, including all aspects of safety, fuel efficiency, vehicle emissions and improved operations.
