UltraCrete drives success on Route Nationale

Instarmac’s French partner, Vert Bleu, have used UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair and SCJ to repair damaged asphalt on the high speed Route Nationale 6.

Located between Chambrey and the border of Italy in the Alps, Route Nationale 6 is subjected to severe weather – including high humidity, little exposure to sunlight and freezing temperatures – and is one of the busiest roads in France with cars and heavy goods vehicles regularly travelling across at speeds of 90km/h.

Constant trafficking, combined with severe weathering, had caused severe damage to an area of Route Nationale 6 in Aiguebelle – a beautiful commune in the Auvergne-Rhôbe-Alpes region in south-eastern France.

A repair product was needed that would withstand heavy and constant trafficking and provide a permanent repair to avoid disruption to motorists and the residents of Aiguebelle. After careful research, UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair and SCJ seal and tack coat spray were chosen to complete the repair and Vert Bleu are delighted to report that the repair has now been in place for over 12 months and shows no signs of failing.

UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair is a cold asphalt technology which has been continuously developed and perfected over the past 40 years to provide a first time permanent pothole repair.

There are many cold lay asphalt repair products available, but Instarmac backs up its technical claims! Strength is gained by compaction, becoming stronger the more traffic travels over it, making it the perfect repair product for heavily trafficked roads, such as  this one.

Permanent Pothole Repair has provided permanent repairs on some of the world’s busiest roads including the German Autobahn, Gardiner Expressway in Canada, UK motorways and New York Bridges and Tunnels.

Applied in 3 easy steps – clean, pour, compact – UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair can be applied in all weathers including hot, cold and wet – it even provides a permanent repair in freezing temperatures in areas of turning and braking.

Independently tested and approved by the British Board of Agrément for over 7 years, Permanent Pothole Repair is proven to be a quality, flexible and durable solution for first time instant and permanent pothole repairs.

UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair is available throughout France through Vert Bleu. To contact Vert Bleu, please call +33 (0)4 79 84 41 or visit ultracrete.fr.

Flowpoint paves the way for exterior tiling

Have you noticed an increase in demand for creating outdoor living areas? If so, you may not be surprised to hear that Houzz Landscaping Trends Survey found that more homeowners are relaxing, eating and entertaining in their outdoor spaces than ever before.

Outdoor living is fast becoming an extension of the home with homeowners aspiring to bring the décor and design of their home interiors to their garden.

Whereas paving used to be an afterthought in garden design, it couldn’t be further from the truth now. Barbecues, hot tubs and pizza ovens have become a regular feature on many people’s patios, creating a desire for beautiful paving.

You can provide your customers with the sunning paving they desire by grouting with UltraScape Flowpoint rapid set flowable grout.

Available in three varieties, Original, ECO and Smooth, and two colours, Flowpoint provides a decorative, natural-effect finish every single time.

Flowpoint is easy to mix and apple and once grouted, paving can be walked over in just 1 hour, minimising disruption to homeowners and allowing you to move on to another project quickly.

Suitable for today’s most popular paving materials including sandstone, limestone, concrete and granite, Flowpoint can be used in the rain, is frost-resistant and is ideal for both large-scale and smaller sized projects.

Flowpoint has been in use for over 20 years and has been manufactured to exceed all the requirements of British Standard 7533. This standard guarantees Flowpoint’s performance and proves that materials are fit for purpose and designed to last.

Flowpoint has been used all around  the world in a number of different environments and is synonymous with fast application, cost-effective and robust jointing.

Flowpoint is readily available throughout the UK through a number of Instarmac’s tiling retailers. To find your nearest stockist please call 01827 254402.

The Mortar Paving System of Choice

In 2006, several revised standards were added to the existing range of BS 7533 suite for concrete, clay and natural stone products, providing specifiers and contractors with a definitive guide to the design and construction of paved areas.

Developed over 25 years ago, BS 7533 was created to offer a clear, consistent and tested methodology for every layer of rigid paved constructions.

To guarantee compliance to BS 7533, all bedding, priming and jointing materials have to undergo thorough testing by an independent UKAS accredited laboratory. Each product is tested to ensure its compressive, adhesive and flexural strengths, modulus of elasticity, minimum density and maximum shrinkage all meet or exceed the parameters set out in the standard.

Independent testing offers the reassurance that products are proven, tested and have a minimum construction life of 40 years. BS 7533 compliant materials also minimise the risk of personal injury claims resulting from failed paving, protecting your professional indemnity insurance.

The requirements of BS 7533 are strict and can be difficult to meet therefore you may see some manufacturers claiming their paving materials are ‘manufactured to meet’ or ‘manufactured in accordance with’ BS 7533.

It is important you only use ‘fully compliant and independently tested materials’ and the only way to be certain of this, is to request a copy of the manufacturers test results – without independent verification you may not be getting what you pay for! UltraScape are always happy to share the results of their independent testing. To request a copy please email ultrascape@instarmac.co.uk.

So what happens if you don’t use an approved system? Whilst there may be an initial cost saving, the life-cost of the project will be significantly more. Non-compliant materials are a high risk to professional indemnity insurance and because they have a lower construction life expectancy, there is more demand for ongoing maintenance, significantly increasing costs.

One of the most over-looked features of BS 7533, is that all of the materials are tested in conjunction with one another ensuring they work together in harmony which minimises workmanship issues – unfortunately, the same cannot be said of non-compliant materials.

Constructing without BS 7533 can lead to early failure and subsequent costly repairs. Why take the risk?

With over 30 years of experience in urban regeneration, UltraScape’s proven and certified Mortar Paving System has withstood rigorous examination. The materials’ fast setting properties vastly reduce costs by allowing areas to be open to traffic in as little as 24 hours. All components offer, where appropriate, impressive adhesive, flexural and compressive strengths and the risk of split liability can be reduced by using beddingpriming and jointing components of the same system.

Choose UltraScape’s proven and certified BS 7533 Mortar Paving System for the outstanding performance and assurance that comes with a UKAS seal of approval – you can’t afford not to!

For more information on the importance using a BS 7533 compliant system and the beddingpriming and jointing materials available from UltraScape, please contact their team of technical experts by email or by calling 01827 254402.

UltraCrete and the battle against car theft

Every year, over 370,000 cars are stolen in the UK – a figure which has increased by 30% over the last 3 years and is continuing to rise.

A recent study found vehicle thefts are more likely to occur in car parks and so it is unsurprising that sales of anti-theft devices, such as steering wheel locks, have increased by 60% in the last year alone.

With car thefts accounting for a third of all reported crimes, now is the time to act. As a manufacturer of premium security installation materials, UltraCrete can provide you with the finest products to keep your car park as safe as possible and help reduce the number of vehicle thefts.

For backfilling and surface repairs around impact tested, high security bollards and crash tested barrier systems, UltraCrete recommends the use of a fibre modified concrete such as QC10 F rapid set flowable concrete.

UltraCrete’s QC10 rapid strength concrete has been designed for backfilling around fixed telescopic bollards, surveillance cameras and lighting – all proven theft deterrents.

Also available is a high precision grout for installing dowel bars and safety railings and a 10mm grade rapid hardening concrete formulated for the fast installation of posts, signs and security gates.

Available in contractor friendly 25kg units, each product can be trafficked within 24 hours, with some open to traffic in as little as 90 minutes, enabling security measures to be installed quickly and effectively.

Every product in the range provides a first time permanent repair so you can be assured that once the installation is complete, the area won’t crack and break out, guaranteeing your safety measures stay in place to help keep your car park safe and eliminating costly repeat visits to site.

UltraCrete has been providing concrete repair solutions for planned and reactive repairs for over 40 years.
