Instarmac achieves prestigious new ISO Accreditation

ISO have recently made changes to the 9001 and 14001 accreditations and Instarmac Group plc are proud to announce that during their recent audit they received a positive recommendation for continued registration of OHSAS 18001 and achieved transition to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Darren Gough, Quality and Operations Manager at Instarmac commented: “This is a fantastic achievement by the team involved as the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 standards will become obsolete in September next year.”

ISO have re-written the entire 9001 and 14001 standard to create one framework. The new framework focuses on 10 points, including Context of the Organisation, Leadership, Planning, Support, Operation, Performance Evaluation and Improvement and these points will be applied to all standards to create a uniformed framework for all new ISO certificates.

On these changes, Darren Gough explained how Instarmac achieved the new accreditation: “During 2016 we created a gap analysis to understand ‘where we were’ and ‘where we needed to get to’ in preparation for our transition audit in 2017. The transition to the new 2015 versions encouraged us to focus more on risk analysis and any challenges we foresee in the management of our business processes. Using tried and tested tools, such as FMEA, we were able to determine our biggest risks, highlighting actions required and implementation driven by leadership and management commitment.

The ISO standards allow Instarmac to reflect a good level of professionalism and demonstrates best practice. Our Quality Management System is a tool we continually use to improve our operations whilst determining how we can meet the requirements of our customers.”

These accreditations are a great accomplishment for Instarmac as they show customers their intent to continually improve all aspects of their business and demonstrates how they are committed to providing first class customer service and world class products that perform each and every time.

UltraScape offers a range of bedding, priming and jointing materials that meet and exceed the strict demands of the British Standard 7533 and deliver great results time and time again.

UltraScape is committed to continually re-evaluating and reducing environmental impact. UltraScape’s ECO products contain recycled glass, supporting customers’ own sustainability targets without compromising product quality or performance. They are ideal for schemes looking to achieve an ‘excellent’ CEEQUAL award, or where a BREEAM assessment is to be conducted.

UltraScape has been used on a number of redevelopment projects of historic interest including Tallinn Old Town Estonia, Lincoln Cathedral and Swansea Castle. The ECO credentials, aesthetic nature and durability of the materials make them the perfect addition to such schemes.

UltraScape’s product portfolio is also keeping the rail industry on track with a number of materials having been approved for use on the London Underground and Overground. UltraScape’s BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system played a major role in helping to transform one of the UK’s busiest train stations, Birmingham New Street, otherwise known as Grand Central Station. The fast setting nature of the products was important as the station was fully operational throughout construction with trains departing every 37 seconds and over 140,000 passengers passing through daily.

UltraScape has been helping to deliver exceptional schemes for over 12 years and has developed a trusted reputation, working and supporting architects on an ever-expanding portfolio of major projects worldwide.

The Times Top 100 awards are split into 4 categories – ‘Best Companies’, ’25 Best Big Companies’, ‘Best Small Companies’ and ‘Best Not-for-Profit Organisations’ – and each celebrate happy and motivated workforces across the country.

Each year sees thousands of companies register to take part in the surveys – which cover topics such as Leadership, Wellbeing, Giving Something Back, Personal Growth, My Manager, My Company, My Team and Fair Deal – with only the top 325 being rewarded this prestigious accolade.

DVSA Ranks Instarmac as Low-Risk Operator

Instarmac Group plc are delighted to announce that their fleet of 37 vehicles and 36 drivers have been identified as a ‘Low-Risk Operator’ by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

The DVSA use the Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS) to determine the safety of a vehicle based on 2 factors – Roadworthiness and Traffic. The DVSA use this score, based on data collected over a 3 year rolling period, to give a company their risk type – Low, Medium or High.

Data is taken from annual tests, roadside inspections and inspections at the operators’ premises. These inspections include vehicle tests, driver’s hours and any tachograph offences where points are given for any defect or infringement of the rules. The more serious the defect the more points are given.

To be classified as low risk, an operator needs to receive a combined OCRS score of less than 10 and Instarmac Group plc were thrilled to receive a score of just 3.

This achievement is the latest in a long line for Instarmac’s award-winning fleet, the most recent being the FORS Silver Award which monitors operational performance, including all aspects of safety, fuel efficiency, vehicle emissions and improved operations.

UltraCrete Brings Joy to Students at Portuguese School

Instarmac’s Portuguese partner, Asfaltovia, have supplied UltraCrete Instant Road Repair® Red to a local school to help them create a new playground for their students.

Domus Social – Empresa de Habitação e Manutenção do Município do Porto, E.M. required a red asphalt to complete their new playground at local school EB Caramila in Oporto, Portufal. The required asphalt needed to provide a permanent finish and cause minimal disruption as possible to the daily routine of the school.

In previous projects of this size, CCR Engenharia – Construçõ Corte Recto, the chosen contractor for this project, had used hot asphalt as the finishing surface. However, access to the playground was very limited and therefore was not possible to get the machinery needed to lay hot asphalt – an alternative product was required!

UltraCrete Instant Road Repair® Red is available in 25kg buckets which allowed the contractors to gain access to site easily, without the need for large equipment. The bucket can also be re-sealed and used another day which meant that no product goes to waste.

What’s more, Instant Road Repair has been independently tested and approved by the Highways Authority Product Approval Scheme (HAPAS) for over 10 years, and is proven to be a quality, flexible and durable solution for first time, permanent repairs.

Applied in 3 easy steps – clean, pour compact – UltraCrete Instant Road Repair® Red can be applied in all weathers – including the sweltering temperatures in Portugal – and can be trafficked instantly which meant the students of EB Caramila school could enjoy their new playground in no time at all!

Not only is UltraCrete Instant Road Repair® Red suitable for repairs in roads and footpaths, the colour of this cold lay asphalt means it is also ideal for repairs to cushions and ramps, bus lanes, cycle tracks, bus stops and colour coded car parks.

UltraCrete Instant Road Repair® Red is one of the many first time, permanent cold lay asphalts available from Instarmac. To find out more, please email or call the International Sales Team on +44 (0) 1827 254402.

Weatherproof your Road Network with Maintenance Solutions from UltraCrete

Potholes are inevitable after periods of wet and freezing weather. They form when rainwater gathers in cracks in the road surface. When they freeze, they expand, effectively forcing the road open. The more this process is repeated, the larger the hole becomes.

Wet weather adversely affects pothole repair too! Hot mix asphalt (HMA) is difficult to lay in wet weather, the rain cools the mix too soon to finish compaction and this can cause premature failure. Furthermore the water will most likely soften the base, weakening its structure.

Traditional HMA and associated equipment is difficult to transport to remote sites too, especially in poor weather conditions. Although HMA is a popular method, cold mix asphalt is an effective alternative since it can be used all year round for pothole and patch repairs. It can be delivered and applied in a broad range of environments, using minimal equipment.

UltraCrete’s HAPAS approved Permanent Pothole Repair is a flexible cold lay asphalt that can be used in all weathers and is the ideal solution for the repair of potholes in roads, driveways and car parks. The product’s flexibility means it is compatible with the existing road surface ensuring a durable repair that removes the burden and expense of return visits. Permanent Pothole Repair comes in handy 25kg re-sealable tubs, eliminating waste and can be trafficked immediately.

Potholes aren’t the only problem for motorists in severe weather! It is also one of the main causes of ironwork failure, in particular manhole covers. Poor installation and quality of bedding material is also to blame in some cases.

UltraCrete offers a fully HAPAS approved reinstatement system for the installation of all types of access covers. It comprises of a range of bedding mortars, backfill flowable concrete, cold lay asphalt, bitumen seal and tack coat spray and a thermoplastic overbanding.

The system includes UltraCrete’s Envirobed HA104® high performance bedding mortar, the cementitous alternative to resin based products. It contains a special blend of cements, polymer graded aggregates and recycled glass and is particularly suitable for use in wet weather conditions. It achieves an impressive 53N/mm² compressive strength in just 3 hours too, providing significant resistance to the elements! Furthermore, installations made using UltraCrete’s reinstatement system are ready to receive traffic in little over an hour, great for sites that require a quick turnaround which is especially advantageous for those contractors working in severe weather conditions!

UltraCrete’s fast track, weather proof repair products mean that work doesn’t stop just because of poor weather conditions prevail. Moreover, their longevity offers a lasting solution and eliminates repeat visits, reducing maintenance costs, traffic management outlay and disruption to motorists.
