Instarmac keeps traffic moving at busy Gold Mining Camp

Instarmac Permanent Pothole Repair® and SCJ seal and tack coat spray have been used to repair potholes at The Black Fox Complex, part of the established Timmins Gold Mining Camp in Matheson, Northern Ontario.

After a number of failed installations, with some only lasting a few weeks, McEwen Mining Inc. had been looking for a pothole repair product that would outperform the current methods used.

The Black Fox Complex is heavily trafficked by mining vehicles all day, every day. The site is also littered with particularly vulnerable areas, such as passing points and areas of turning. The freezing winters and hot summer months, heavy good vehicles and wear and tear of already weakened spots, meant that McEwen Mining Inc. had struggled to find a pothole repair material that would provide a permanent solution in these extreme conditions.

After careful consideration, and research into alternative repair methods, McEwen Mining Inc. chose to install Instarmac Permanent Pothole Repair® across The Black Fox Complex.

Da-Lee Pavement Products, Instarmac’s Canadian partner and provider of Dust Control services to McEwen Mining Inc., supplied Instarmac Permanent Pothole Repair® and SCJ seal and tack coat spray for the repairs.

Instarmac Permanent Pothole Repair® is a first time permanent pothole repair which has been continuously developed over the past 40 years and used all around the world with excellent results. It is being used on a daily basis in all climates, from the snow bound island of Hokkaido in Japan, to the tropical monsoon hit roads of Malaysia, in the freezing cold Scandinavian winters, the heat of the Namibian desert and the temperate climates of Europe.

There are many cold lay asphalt repair products available, but Instarmac backs up its technical claims. Strength is gained by compaction, becoming stronger the more traffic travels over it, making it perfect for heavily trafficked roads and areas of vehicle turning and braking – the perfect repair product for busy sites such as this one.

Applied in 3 easy steps, Instarmac Permanent Pothole Repair® can be applied in all weathers including hot, wet and cold – it can even be used in freezing temperatures. This innovative material has been independently tested by the British Board of Agrément and is proven to be a quality, flexible and durable solution for first time instant and permanent pothole repairs.

“Instarmac Permanent Pothole Repair® is so good that we have not had to do any more repairs. We have hauled about 700,000 tons over it and it is like the day we put it in” Glenn Elliott, Surface Superintendent.

Instarmac Permanent Pothole Repair® and SCJ are available in Ontario, Canada through Da-Lee Dust Control. To contact Da-Lee please call 905 643 1135 or visit

What is BREEAM?

With virgin aggregates and natural resources plummeting at a frightening rate and environmental targets for construction projects becoming more common, ensuring schemes are developed and built for a sustainable future has never been more important – a cause BREEAM have always been passionate about.

Launched in 1990 and recognised internationally, BREEAM is the ‘world’s leading sustainability assessment method for all master planning projects, infrastructure and buildings’.

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environment Assessment Method) ‘recognises and reflects the value in higher performing assets across the built environment lifecycle’ and uses independent third parties to evaluate a scheme’s environment, social and economic performance.

With a desire to protect natural resources, BREEAM has a number of sustainability goals every project should strive and work towards and provides guidance and assistance on how to achieve the targets set out.

With evidence that ‘BREEAM certified developments are more sustainable and enhance the wellbeing of the people who live and work in them’, it is unsurprising that achieving a BREEAM certification is high on the list of priorities for architects and designers.

BREEAM assessments take place at any stage of a project and are carried out by independent and licenced BREEAM assessors. The impartial surveyors measure sustainability across a number of categories to ensure a project meets the quality and performance standards of the BREEAM scheme.

These categories were developed to reflect some of today’s most important issues such as carbon emissions, durability and adaption to climate change. If an assessor believes a project has met one of BREEAM’s goals, they are rewarded with credits. Once the project has completed, all credits are added together to award the project with its overall certification. The stars featured on the certificate (1 star for a Pass – 5 stars for Outstanding) reflect the performance achieved by the project and provides reassurance to customers, clients, users and stakeholders that the project is one of quality and value.

The areas in which BREEAM assess sustainability include energy, health and wellbeing, innovation, land use, management, pollution, transport, waste, water and materials – it is the latter where UltraScape can help you make a difference.

UltraScape understands the importance of sustainable building solutions and  that is why all product development is geared around delivering sustainable solutions for today’s BREEAM requirements. They are constantly investing in research to continuously reduce their use of raw materials by testing new recycled materials.

With this in mind, UltraScape’s team of technical experts enhanced the formulation of their world renowned bedding mortar, Pro-Bed HS, and flowable grout, Flowpoint, to create Pro-Bed HS ECO and Flowpoint ECO – mortar paving products with a difference!

Launched over 20 years ago, Pro-Bed HS ECO and Flowpoint ECO have each been tested by an independent UKAS accredited laboratory and are proven to exceed the strict requirements set out in British Standard 7533. What’s more, both products contain 20% recycled material which means that for every 1,000m² of paving bedded and jointed using Pro-Bed HS ECO and Flowpoint ECO, 12 tonnes of recycled material will be used (based on 30mm bed depth, 10mm joint width and stone size of 600 x 400 x 50mm). This vastly reduces the use of virgin aggregates and helps towards achieving an Outstanding BREEAM certification.

The benefits of using UltraScape Pro-Bed HS ECO and Flowpoint ECO don’t stop there. Discover why you should use UltraScape’s BS 7533 Mortar Paving System on your next project.

For further information on BREEAM and how UltraScape can help you achieve this prestigious certification, please contact UltraScape’s team of technical experts by email or by calling 01827 254402.

UltraScape brews the perfect grout

Instarmac’s Belgian partner, Nijst Natuursteen have supplied UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth to install 3,000m² of paving at the Town of Purnode in Wallonia.

The renovation of Purnode town centre involved the installation of paving in front of a church and surrounding the iconic Brasserie Du Bocq brewery.

Founded in 1858, Brasserie Du Bocq is one of the last traditional brewers in Belgium and is celebrated for its classic manufacturing processes. With beers brewed from the finest quality malt, hops and yeast, Brasserie Du Bocq welcomes thousands of visitors every year, all with a desire to taste and purchase their famous beers.

With the number of visitors to Condroz, the charming tourist area where Brasserie Du Bocq is located, increasing every year, it was important the Town of Purnode specified a paving grout that would cause minimal disruption to tourists and provide a durable finish that could withstand constant trafficking and that would not break out causing dangerous trip hazards.

Flowpoint Smooth was supplied by Instarmac’s Belgian partner, Nijst Natuursteen, and used by Nonnet, the main contractor for this project, to grout the Belgian cobble stones throughout Purnode town centre.

Part of the UltraScape Mortar Paving System, Flowpoint Smooth has been independently tested to British Standard 7533 and has been developed over a number of years to provide a durable finish which will not crack or stain – even when applied in cold and extremely hot temperatures.

Flowpoint Smooth is a flowable grout which allows large areas of paving to be grouted quickly. It can be used to grout joints from 3mm to 50mm and as deep as 200mm in one application – ideal for projects where different sized and irregular shaped stones are used.

What’s more, Flowpoint Smooth can receive foot traffic in 1 hour and vehicular traffic in 4 hours – ideal for busy areas where minimal disruption and early trafficking is essential, such as this one.

Flowpoint is available throughout Belgium through Nijst Natuursteen. To contact Nijst please or visit

UltraFloor goes the extra mile

CSLL Contract Flooring Ltd have used Level IT Top to install a 700m² floor at a new Hyundai garage workshop in Southampton.

With over 75,000 employees and 5,000 dealerships and showrooms worldwide, Hyundai have continued to grow in popularity and in 2017 they achieved a sales growth of 9.8%, putting them 8% ahead of their UK business plan and increasing their market share from 3.35% to 3.45% – a figure which not all car manufacturers can boast.

To keep up with demand, Hyundai have opened a number of new dealerships including Richmond Hyundai in Southampton. The dealership not only prides itself on its excellent customer but the aftersales care package they also offer.

In order to enhance their Servicing, Body Shop and MOT offerings, a new 700m² workshop was built on-site at the Southampton dealership.

CSLL Contract Flooring Ltd, the chosen contractor for this project, used Level IT Top heavy duty surface finish floor leveller to complete the subfloor preparation at this busy location.

Suitable for both commercial and industrial applications, Level IT Top is a polymer rich, high strength single part, cementitious smoothing underlayment with exceptional abrasion resistance.

Level IT Top boasts a coverage of approximately 3.1m² at 5mm, has a working time of 30-40 minutes, can receive foot traffic after just 2-3 hours and forklift traffic after 36 hours – keeping downtime to a minimum and allowing business to resume quickly.

Level IT Top was applied by trowel to the concrete and cement substrate and was left as a finished wear surface before a resin coating was applied 48 hours later.

A quick response to a site visit request, ongoing support and communication and cost-effective solutions, were just some of the reasons why CSLL Contract Flooring Ltd chose to use UltraFloor for the installation.

For more information on UltraFloor’s range of subfloor preparation materials, please contact their team of Technical experts by email or by calling 01827 254402.
