Wood-Effect Floors – 6 Trends to look out for

30th March 2018

When you think of wooden floors, what do you think? Beautiful? Classic? Expensive? Wood-effect vinyl, laminate and tiled floors make creating a spectacular wooden floor much more achievable and affordable.

Wood-effect floors are a popular choice amongst homeowners. Ideal for open plan living, they are hygienic, convenient and easily cleaned – an ideal choice for families and pet owners.

Versatility is another reason for their popularity. Perfect for both traditional and modern homes, they look stunning everywhere and are particularly striking in kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms – yes, you heard us right, wood-effect floors have even started to feature in our bathrooms!

Whilst traditional dark wood floors will always remain a classic, there are so many more options now available to us. Take a look at some of our favourite trends for 2018.

Combining Colours – This is one trend we are really excited about. Using a combination of colours is a sure fire way to add personality to your décor and is a great way of separating specific areas in open plan living spaces.

Textures – Smooth and glossy wood-effect tiles will always remain a firm favourite for homeowners but now there’s a new player in town! We believe 2018 will see a surge in popularity for distressed wood-effect floors – they add warmth to a room and are ideal for those looking to create a rustic charm in their bedroom or living area.

Patterns – Why not try something different and use herringbone or diagonal patterns to make a real statement. Wood-effect vinyl makes light work of complex patterns so why not step away from the traditional and let your imagination run free with possibilities.

Light Wood – Blonde and Grey are proving very popular choices in 2018. Lighter floors look spectacular in modern homes and are a fantastic way to create light or to help make smaller rooms feel larger. For a really dramatic effect, why not contrast your lighter floor with black, charcoal or grey furniture and accessories.

Dark Wood – Darker wood will always remain a popular choice for homeowners. Solid hardwood can be an expensive option, however wood-effect laminate makes creating a beautiful wooden floor really affordable. Darker woods add colour and charm to your interiors and looks particularly impressive when teamed with cream, grey, white and even pastel shades of paint and furniture.

Wide Planks – Perfect for both modern and traditional homes, wide planks look really effective in larger rooms as they have the space to show them off beautifully. They can also be used in smaller rooms to give them the illusion of being bigger than they actually are.

Did your favourite wood-effect floor make the list? Will you look to introduce any of these trends to your home? We would love to see your floors, so why not add a pin to our Wood Effect Floors Pinterest board – we can’t wait to see them all!
