AJO Tiling secures a long-lasting shower room with UltraTile

AJO Tiling transformed a water-damaged shower room into a fully waterproofed, structurally reinforced, and professionally finished space using the complete UltraTile system for a durable result built to last.

When a leak caused water damage to a wooden floor and the ceiling below, AJO Tiling was called in to completed rebuild the shower room floor from the ground up. The client needed not only a strong and durable solution but also the reassurance of full waterproofing to prevent future problems.

By combining expert craftsmanship with UltraTile’s specialist product range, AJO Tiling delivered a finish that was both structurally sound and visually flawless.

The first step was to strip away the damaged flooring and replace the subfloor with Hardie Backer Board, securely stuck down and screwed to create a stable base. Once in place, the surface was primed with UltraTile ProPrimer to guarantee proper adhesion and prepare for waterproofing. The team then applied UltraTile ProAqua Shield tanking kit, ensuring that every part of the floor and its critical junctions were fully sealed against moisture ingress.

The UltraTile ProAqua Shield tanking kit offers truly efficient waterproofing with just a single-coat application – no priming required – and allows tiling to begin in as little as 90 minutes, making it exceptionally fast and easy to use.

Designed for versatility and durability, ProAqua Shield performs equally well on both walls and floors across bathrooms, wetrooms, kitchens and commercial settings – providing robust protection across various substrates.

With the preparation complete, tiling could begin. UltraTile ProEco Gel tile adhesive was used to set the tiles in position, providing a strong, flexible bond designed for the demands of a wet environment.

UltraTile ProEco Gel is a thixotropic, flexible gel adhesive that combines exceptional ease of application with extended workability – allowing tilers significantly more time to position tiles – while offering enhanced adhesion and performance, even with large-format tiles and underfloor heating.

Engineered with sustainability in mind, it incorporates 30% recycled content without compromising on quality or flexibility, making it ideal for areas subject to vibration or movement – providing with eco-friendly credentials and high durability in one.

To finish the installation, UltraTile ProGrout Flexible was applied to the joints, followed by UltraTile ProSealer silicone for added protection.

UltraTile ProGrout Flexible is engineered with polymer enhancement and ColourShield technology to deliver exceptional flexibility and virtually impermeable performance – perfect for areas exposed to movement or vibration, such as wetrooms, swimming pools and underfloor heating.

Offered in a stunning palette of 14 colours, this grout resits mould, is easy to wash down, and reaches a hard set in just 12 hours, while remaining suitable for joint widths up to 20mm.

The result was a fully rebuilt shower room floor that is not only structurally reinforced but also protected against future leaks.
