UltraFloor aces subfloor preparation at Essex University

Veatu Flooring and UltraFloor have partnered to complete a 1800sqm subfloor preparation project at Wivenhoe Park, home to Essex University’s Colchester Campus.

Background

Home to 15,000 students, Colchester Campus is the largest of three Essex University sites. Set within 200 acres of beautiful parkland, Wivenhoe Park is a much sought-after destination for all Essex University students.

The Challenge

Work was required across several locations, including bathrooms, staircases, and corridors, and was due to completed in numerous phases over a 7-month period.

The Solution

Having used UltraFloor materials on a previous job, CFA members, Veatu Flooring, knew that UltraFloor would be the best to deliver this 1800sqm project on time, and to the highest standards.

Before work began, UltraFloor’s Technical Team visited the site to test the subfloor and give recommendations on which products would be best to install the chosen carpet tiles, sheet vinyl, LVT and ceramic tiles.

The first phase started in the central core of the building, beginning in the toilets and shower areas on the ground floor and finishing on the third floor.

Once completed, the Veatu Flooring team moved on to the second phase of the project which involved installing numerous floorcoverings across three floors of the campus as well as installing sheet vinyl and Gradus nosing’s on two staircases.

To complete the work, Veatu Flooring utilised UltraFloor’s DPM IT damp proof membrane, Feather IT rapid drying finishing compound and Level IT Two multi-purpose smoothing underlayment.

DPM IT is a two component, solvent free epoxy resin system for use as a surface damp proof membrane. Designed to provide protection against subfloor moisture, DPM IT has a pot life of 45 – 75 minutes, a cure time of 5 hours and boasts a 98% RH floor moisture tolerance.

There are many reasons why Level IT Two has become UltraFloor’s most popular floor leveller. Its exceptional flow characteristics make it a very easy material to apply to a variety of subfloors in both commercial and domestic flooring projects. Its low odour formulation means this fantastic all-rounder leveller is equally suited to confined areas, proving particularly popular in the education, health and hospitality sectors.

With a set time of 2.5 hours, Level IT Two can receive bonded floor coverings after just 8 hours, making it an ideal choice for projects with a tight deadline. What’s more, because Level IT Two is available as a two component system, it takes the guesswork out of mixing, reducing site errors and guaranteeing a perfect application every time.

Results
