Choosing the right shower or bathroom sealant for the job

Our UltraTile range includes a number of sealants and sealers, so you can find the perfect option to fit any bathroom job.

A wet area sealant for all kitchen and bathroom applications, ProSealer is one of our most versatile products, perfect for most applications. However, for sealing your tiles and grout against water, you’ll likely want ProClean Tile & Grout Sealer.

Our range of shower sealants and sealers also includes ProShield, a Tanking Kit that can be applied before tiles are fitted to provide further waterproof protection.

When choosing the ideal sealant, consider the characteristics that you want it to deliver. ProSealer conforms to ISO846 and can accommodate high movement and temperature changes. It is also an ideal sanitary silicone sealant, suitable for sealing all types of sanitary-ware, including sinks, basins and more.

Benefits of using quality bathroom sealant

Choosing high-quality bathroom sealant or shower joint sealant gives you peace of mind, whether as a homeowner or contractor, that the work you’ve done will leave a lasting impact.

Damage caused by water ingress causes damp and mould and can even result in electrical failures and building collapse if left untreated. With this in mind, quality bathroom sealant is not something you should cut corners with.

High-quality shower joint sealants – like our ProSealer range – are formulated to be mould-resistant, using anti-microbial technology to guard against mould and mildew, as well as preventing water ingress.

And, of course, with a range of colours available, you can seamlessly match your sealant to your bathroom’s interior design, delivering a picture-perfect finish.

Shower sealant and bathroom sealant FAQs

Want to know more about how to apply our shower and bathroom sealant? Learn about storage information and much more by browsing our FAQs below.

This page features both our ProSealer Sealant and our ProClean Tile & Grout Sealer, which might sound similar but are used in different applications.

For example, ProClean Sealer is a liquid sealer best applied directly on tiles and grout to waterproof and protect against water and oil stains, while ProSealer Sealant is a silicone used to create a waterproof, airtight barrier.

Though both are used for waterproofing applications, and therefore have similar names, knowing and understanding the difference between the two is vital.

The length of time it takes for your shower sealant to dry will depend on a number of factors, including the application conditions and thickness. For ProSealer, we typically recommend at least 24 hours of drying time, based on a thickness of 3mm.

A second coat of ProClean Tile & Grout Sealer can be applied after a minimum drying time of 30-45 minutes, but will not provide full protection until at least 24 hours after the application is complete.

Once your old sealant is removed, cut the nozzle from your ProSealer cartridge at a 45° angle. Load the cartridge into a caulking gun and apply to your joint to create a smooth line across the gap you wish to fill. Be sure to apply in one smooth motion to avoid any gaps in your sealant.

Then, use a smoothing tool or a wet finger to create a neat finish before leaving to cure for a minimum of 24 hours.

Every bathroom sealant or sealer within the UltraTile range should be stored at room temperature and be applied at temperatures of 5°C to 25°C.

Under optimal storage conditions, both ProSealer and ProClean boast a shelf life of 24 months before performance may be compromised. Our ProShield Tanking Kit has a shelf month of 12 months.

We aim to make all of our bathroom adhesives and sealers as long-lasting as possible, delivering the premium performance associated with UltraTile.

Our ProClean Sealer will continue to perform for up to 20 years with the right care and in the right conditions.

Removing shower silicone once it’s cured can be tricky, but is easily done with the right tools and equipment. You’ll need a utility knife, plastic scraper, sealant remover and cleaner, with a cloth to wipe down the area.

Step 1:
Use your knife to cut away the bulk of the sealant.

Step 2:
Apply your sealant remover and wait at least 30 mins for it to begin breaking down the remaining sealant.

Step 3:
Use your scraper to scrape off the softened residue, avoiding scratching your tiles or the bath/shower tray.

Step 4:
Use your dedicated cleaner to remove any leftover traces.
