Case Study: Tayman Tiling delivers a smooth, level finish using UltraTile

Project Overview

Tayman Tiling were appointed to complete a high-quality tiling installation within a domestic kitchen extension. The project covered 55sqm and involved preparing a challenging sand and cement substrate which had a retrofit underfloor heating system routed into the screed.

With floor levels varying between 3-15mm, achieving a flat, stable surface was essential for the finial tile finish.

Products Used

To overcome the substrate’s complexity, Tayman Tiling selected two UltraTile solutions:

• UltraTile ProPrimer – to ensure excellent adhesion between the substrate and smoothing compound.
• UltraTile ProLevel Fibre – chosen for its fibre-reinforced formulation and ability to accommodate varied depths in a single application.

Installation Process

Surface Preparation: Tayman Tiling thoroughly cleaned and primed the sand and cement substrate using ProPrimer, creating a uniform and dependable base.

Levelling over Underfloor Heating: With the underfloor heating channels creating unevenness across the floor, Tayman Tiling applied ProLevel Fibre from 3mm up to 15mm to achieve a consistent, level surface ready for tiling.

Achieving a Smooth Finish: ProLevel Fibre’s flow characteristics allowed the compound to settle seamlessly around the heating system, eliminating ridges and inconsistencies that would otherwise affect tile installation.

Outcome

The combination of ProPrimer and ProLevel Fibre enabled Tayman Tiling to transform an uneven surface, into a perfectly level base. The result was a durable, professional finish that ensured long-term performance for the tiled kitchen floor.
